Letchworth Garden City RFC
Hertford RFC

The first half was a tough encounter where attitude from Letchworth was being beaten by the odd step and a 10 who kicked it further than most go on holiday!

The standard for the halftime talk was set by MASH who was positive and looking for the attitude from the team to match that. Captain Andy was quick to point out Hertford had camped in our half and only had a few scores in the bank. The 2nd half saw the results of that team talk. Great attitude and discipline and tackling saw Letchworth really starting to play on their terms. With points on the board scored by a back - so who cares which one! Letchworth really started to turn the screw, in fact Hertford now needed deliberate knock-ons and a missed touch by Letchworth to keep the lead. With Letchworth camped in the 22 for a long period of the half, we had Pav somehow held up (surely a man of his height would need to be over the bar to be held up?!) a clearance from Hertford saw a great catch and returning run from a sexy #11 who apparently hasn’t played for a while - this returning run was only just stopped on the 5m line. Speaking of returning runs, ⁨James Spence seemed to be constantly set on running the ball back into the Hertford 22 (and 5) with offloads and touch lines the only thing stopping destiny.

However if we are being fair and true, the most outrageous returning move was done by Mr T who managed to kick a spiral bomb so far that the touch judge Mr Price was moaning he now had to run, though Conner did add that he had to run and tackle so he may win.

Best kick though goes to the Letchworth Captain who kicked the ball after the Hertford 9 had executed the pass to their 10, so as the ball flys Andy’s boot connects and sends it into touch for the game to stay on their 5m line which is where it ende d- with Hertford kicking the ball out unable to take the relentless pressure.

Shoutout to Lewis Ryall for his first game at Hooker and doing the 80.

Thanks to all who played and got the game, and for helping me to not watch Octonauts! Hope to see many and more next week for the 3s next week.
