Letchworth Garden City RFC
Hertford RFC

As the Hertford stalwart David Williams remarked, the hospitality shown by the home side was not matched by the weather. Thoroughly soaked by half time, he had to retreat home to change his clothing but observed, in an evenly contested first half, Letchworth had not made best usage of the wind. Both sides are to be commended for sticking at it, but alas this was another game that Letchworth let slip in a disappointing performance. On the other hand, Hertford were delighted to record their first victory in seven encounters.

The early minutes belonged to Letchworth and a scintillating try from flying winger Josh Parkhouse, converted by Sharp, but that was as good as it got as the Letchworth skipper fell short of his high standards, even missing a penalty in front of the posts. However, given his overall play over the past four seasons, there is no doubt he will come back even stronger. Hertford soon replied with a score by winger Parker, converted by Lloyd.

Going in at 7-7 against a strong wind, Hertford were always going to be favourites in the second half, and so it proved with forward based tries by Jones and Baz Basras son Christy, both converted, to leave a final score of 7-19 and Letchworth with no bonus points to take as crumbs of comfort.

A trip to Westcliff beckons next week, and it is to be hoped a better performance to end this below average start to the season.
