Enfield came to Legends Lane yesterday with what was the third best defensive record in the league but left with it in tatters following a 41/7 drubbing by Legends in front of a vociferous crowd of some 300 people.
The north London side did enjoy periods of possession and pressure and their full back Anderson was always a danger but in the end it counted for little as they could not match the patterns and interlinking play of the home side who again impressed and draw nearer to Old Priorians and a coveted second place in this tough league.
Head coach Baz Basra was again well pleased with his charges performance and awarded colours to Hem Johal who grows in confidence with every game as well as the mercurial Luke Mongston.
The first ten minutes were evenly balanced till a good shove at scrum time enabled Johal to put new boy Will Titherington through for his debut try. Johal added the conversion and then a penalty before another Johal skipped over for a fine score which was converted to make it 17/0 at half time.
Though Enfield turned round with a wind advantage it mattered not as an eighty metre move saw Titherington over for a second. Enfield were offered brief hope with a score to bring things back to 22/7 but from then on in it was all Legends. Josh Dell bounced off several tackles to feed Joe Allison who in turn put skipper Fitts over and then great interplay by the Johal clan made it 34/7. Dell deservedly got the final score as Enfield, now with heads down, just wanted the final whistle to blow.
So Letchworth can now go into the final game before Christmas at lowly Datchworth with confidence and anticipation of a result to bring festive cheer to Legends Lane.
