The whole country is celebrating after the England Red Roses lifted the Women’s Rugby World Cup – and here at Letchworth Rugby Club, we celebrated the build up to the occasion in true community style with a special evening dedicated to girls’ rugby, creativity and fun.
On Thursday 18th September, 23 girls joined us for a unique Red Roses/Barbie Activity Evening – combining the power of rugby with imagination and creativity. The clubhouse buzzed with energy as the girls enjoyed:
- Bracelet making
- Origami (roses, hearts and more)
- Colouring and kit design
- Hair braiding with black and gold ribbons – in support of Wales and Saracens player, Georgia Evans
To top it all off, each girl went home with a Barbie/Red Roses goody bag, packed with surprises including a Barbie water bottle, badge and keepsakes to celebrate such a brilliant evening.
One of our young players, Hannah Rowe, summed it up perfectly:
“The party was great – there was so much to do! At the rugby club there was hair braiding, colouring, origami and the best bit… BRACELET MAKING!!! At the end we got a bag with a Barbie water bottle, a badge and other amazing things. As a player myself it really was a way to celebrate that girls can play rugby.”
Girls Rugby
Girls’ rugby is now the fastest growing sport in the world – and at Letchworth Rugby Club we’re proud to be part of that movement. Our Lionesses women’s team is thriving, and our girls’ section is growing every season, with more and more young players discovering the confidence, friendships and fun that rugby brings.
Events like this show that rugby is more than a game - it’s about belonging, creativity, and celebrating what girls can achieve together.
Get Involved
If your daughter wants to try something new, make new friends and be part of a sport that celebrates teamwork, confidence and resilience, Letchworth Rugby Club is the place to start.
We welcome girls age 7-17 and all abilities - whether you’ve never picked up a rugby ball before or you’re already a player looking for your next challenge. Training is on a Thursday evening from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.
Come down, give it a go, and see why women’s and girls’ rugby is growing so fast. The future is bright, and it’s happening right here at Letchworth.
