It will be all hands to the pump this coming Saturday as Letchworth Rugby Club are set to honour one of their most iconic members. Graham “Boss” Walker was in turn Captain and Chairman of the club and also County coach and President. He also had a long and successful career in the Police as well as being commended for his work at the Hatfield and Potters Bar rail crashes and the Far Eastern Tsunami where he headed up the UK recovery team. He lost his long battle with cancer in January and it is only with the relaxation of Covid laws that he can be remembered in true style this Saturday (July 31st).
The day begins with a veterans game between LETCHWORTH and Bishops Stortford at 11.30 am. Then, following speeches, there is a GRAHAM WALKER SELECT XV including players from Rosslyn Park, Ampthill, Hertford, Sheffield Tigers and Letchworth against a County Select team kicking off at 2.30 pm. This will be followed by the BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS second test on a big screen and a band afterwards.
President Brian BURKE said “It will be a full on day to honour a true son of Letchworth and Hertfordshire. It cannot be stressed enough how much of a legend this man was and we intend to make this one of the greatest days in the clubs history. Everyone is welcome as the action will all be outside with entry by memorial programme at £5.”
