On Saturday 22nd November, the festive season officially arrived in Letchworth - and not even the wet, damp weather could dampen the spirit of our incredible Letchworth Lionesses, their coaches, and our growing girls’ rugby squad!
Despite the rain, our women and girls showed up with smiles, energy and plenty of black-and-amber pride as they took part in the town’s Christmas Lights Switch-On Parade, lighting up the streets with their enthusiasm even before the illuminations began.
Lights glowed through the drizzle, Santa hats held strong against the wind, and the Lionesses demonstrated exactly what makes women’s and girls’ rugby at Letchworth so special: resilience, confidence, teamwork, friendship, and fun - whatever the weather.
The crowd lining the route clearly felt it too. There were cheers, waves and high-fives all along the way, with parents, coaches and supporters proudly following behind. Rain or not, this was a brilliant community moment. A huge thank you to Love Letchworth for inviting us along to be part of this amazing event, it was a priviledge to join in alongside amazing musicians, artists, performers and entertainers.
Women’s and girls’ rugby at Letchworth continues to build momentum, welcoming players of all ages and all experience levels - whether you’ve played before or you’re brand new to the game. We train on:
Girls (School Years 3–13) train every Thursday, 6.30–7.30pm
Women (Adult Lionesses) train every Wednesday, 7.30–9pm
Our aim is to create a supportive, uplifting, confidence-building space where every girl and woman can discover her strength, grow her skills, and feel part of something special, both on and off the pitch. Events like the Christmas parade show just how strong and spirited this rugby family truly is.
