It is with immense sadness that I have to inform you that Phil Hall, having put up an amazing fight, lost his battle against the Covid-19 virus yesterday.  Phil was an enormously enthusiastic member and supporter of the club, and was present at nearly every home lunch often bringing a good crowd from the Lion with him.  I know he made many friends at the club, but then he was the sort of chap who would make friends anywhere he went.  Open, honest, kind and supportive were all traits of this fine man of Kent.

Phil was also an exceptional landlord of the White Lion, and of course at the much lamented Broken Drum.  He always had a smile on his face and made everyone welcome. He has made so many friends in his time living in Baldock and will be sorely missed by each and every one.

Phil was also an enthusiastic member of our Bunter club that tours every year.  I gave him the name Tom Redwing from the Greyfriars stories, and in fact Phil was just like that character.  Loyal and true and once a friend, a friend for life.  Although he was only among us for ten years he was sewn into our fabric and it will never be the same going to the Lion again without his open smile and infectious laugh ... so many memories of our tours that raise a smile but also bring a tear to my eyes as I write this ... not least the swastika on Boof’s car at Waterloo!

Our hearts go out to Megan and all of Phil's family and friends at this awful time and I hope you will all join me in raising a glass to Phil the Legend who will remain in the hearts of all his family, friends and Letchworth Legends now and forever.
