Letchworth Rugby Club is proud to support former club captain Richie Davies as he takes on an extraordinary fundraising challenge this May in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Richie, who captained the 1st XV from 1985–87 and served as club captain during the mid-1990s, is preparing to complete a demanding nine to ten day walk across South Wales, covering some of the country’s most challenging and beautiful terrain to raise money for a cause that has touched so many lives.
What began as an unfinished adventure first attempted in 1985 is now being revisited with a far greater purpose. Over the years, cancer has deeply affected Richie’s family and close friends, and this walk has become a way of helping contribute to the fight against a disease that continues to impact countless people and families.
Beginning at Aberthaw, Richie’s route will take him through Cowbridge, across the valleys to Aberdare, through Waterfall Country, before joining sections of The Cambrian Way across some of Wales’ most spectacular landscapes. His journey will continue through Llandovery, Strata Florida, over Pumlumon, and finish at Aberdyfi, with “crackin’ views” promised for the final stage.
Richie will be supported along the way by family and friends, with backup drivers, overnight stops, and encouragement helping him tackle what will be a huge physical challenge.
In true Richie fashion, there is also a thoughtful personal touch to the walk. Along the route, he has offered to send short video clips from some of the stunning locations he passes - whether from mountain tops, lakes or waterfalls with messages or dedications to loved ones affected by cancer.
Richie himself says, quoting Boss “It’s gotta be done.”
